This means that OpenCanvas comes with the perks of being a steam user. It’s the best illustration art software that is currently only available on Steam, which gives it an advantage over those who aren’t, such as Clip Studio Paint. That is very generous and it gives people enough time to save until they can afford to buy it. It puts Clip Studio Paint’s 30 day trial to shame. I dare you to mention another art program that has a 120 day trial period. It’s super useful and makes drawing digitally a snap. The Hand tool is a godsend! I’m so serious. The touch features work for my Wacom Bamboo Create, unlike when I was using Paint Tool SAI.It does lack some features but it has good photo editing capabilities that almost makes having Photoshop redundant. ![]() Especially useful if you’re an artist who makes speed-paints/draw videos. With the Event feature, you can recreate how your drawing came to be from start to finish. It may not be in the same league as Clip Studio Paint, but it definitely stacks up well against the competition. It’s a seperate window which can load up any image you like so you don’t have to minimise the program all the time, or have it side-by-side to see it. Reference window is something I didn’t even know I needed until now.Since the program is similar to Paint Tool SAI, it makes learning to use it less painless than something with a completely unfamilair UI. Simple UI that’s quite easy to understand.I recommend checking my guide to setting up your own personal workspace if needed. It’s pretty customizable too, allowing you to re-arrange the windows however you like. Black theme is easy on the eyes, especially in the dark if you’re a night owl artist. It loads very fast compared to the likes of Photoshop which takes forever. I will be reviewing the Steam version of OpenCanvas 7.I’ll be making comparisons to Clip Studio Paint, Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop.I’m going to try to be as informative as possible, so if you want to make a purchasing decision for OpenCanvas 7, I’m your girl. …it does come with significant downsides which I will discuss further in my points below. Sai is a simple open platform like MS Paint with no clumped up features around it making it easier to see the canvas.ĬPS- NOW THIS IS GOOD FOR PAINTINGS! I love the sub catagories it has and the community who provide their own custom made brushes than SAI/PS combined. As a webcomic artist and illustrator, it’s perfect for me. Although the fun part is tweaking your brushes etc. ![]() ![]() SAI/SAI2- I actually did great paintings in this, but on the downside, LiteralHatCS did mention the brushes don't look natural. I can't answer what the preference can or will be, only you can test it out and decide for yourself. Sides I'm a mutli user myself and i ofteningly bounce between SAI and CPS every other week. When you do get SAI or at least buy it, it'll allow you to upgrade to SAI2 for free and test that program out.Ĭorel Painter 2021- that one is a good one and I want that w ītw your art isn't bad at all! Pretty decent for PS! Also don't let other artists opinions sway yours, you DO whats' comfortable for you. Personally, I use SAI/SAI 2 and CPS and Photoshop as well. The brush engines are completely different- at least from SAI then it ain't possible.Īlthough CPS/PS are completely compatible for brushes. PS: I'm not considering PC specs nor price, since those fortunately are not a problem to me. So, in your opinion, which one is the best and why? Do you think I should use it? I've read some posts on Reddit about that, but they not always were about all of them and sometimes they were even about other programs, but most importantly, they seemed outdated, considering that some major updated could have been released since then, which could change many features and opinions about them. Plus, I know that some people prefer to do the sketch, line art and basic coloring on SAI or CSP and then the special effects on PS, which sounds great actually. I'm relatively new to art by itself (heres the link to one of my recent drawings ( ), so perhaps I'm the problem, but I do see many people saying that artists should use SAI or CSP, at least for sketches and line arts, instead of PS, mostly because of how well they handle brushes and stuff. However, I always felt the way it handles brushes a little odd, probably because it was meant to be an image editing program, not a drawing one. Since I moved from traditional to digital drawing, I've always used Photoshop, because of its relevance in the market, features and the fact that I already was used to it.
